August 1, 2008 Illustration Friday

The cops were calling it an industrial accident. But after going over the books at Uncle Maury's Institutional Grade Tuna, I knew that Maury's fishing fleet had recently expanded into new fishing waters. It was a turf, or surf war. I had a feeling a new gang was in town, and that is why Maury had gotten canned.

The topic this week was "canned".

Thanks for you comments everybody!

Kate -- You know I honestly, honestly never thought of this as gross. I mean it! There's no blood, no gore. Just... legs and a can. I can tell by the responses though that this is one of those times that I had no idea what the hu-m0ns would think of my work. 8 )

You folks should stop by Jo1day's blog, she has some AWESOME work there. I love her characters. And also stop by Lil Kim's blog. She has a great Canned illustration posted, and some tastey looking cinamon rolls. Mmmmmmm...

Roberta -- Thanks! I appreciate the compliment from someone so talented, and someone who sees as much illustration as you. I see your comments everywhere! You are prolific baby!

Nice! Great little "film noir" theme going on in your last few illustrations!

Too funny! I'll make sure I don't buy that brand of tuna. I agree, you have a great film noir theme going!

Tom and Nessadee -- I've been writing/illustrating a middle grade level detective story with a friend of mine, so I've got this stuff on the brain all the time. I also listen to old radio detective programs while I work, that might influence my subject matter too.

Great continuation of the detective theme. Funny and sinister scene (really like the tuna logo too)...but is it dolphin friendly?...

RyanLoghry said...

Thanks Bee! Uncle Maury's Industrial Grade Tuna claims to be dolphin safe. But maybe it was a pack of surly dolphins that offed Uncle Maury.

Good One Ryan!! What inspired you to come up with this storyline? Ah, I see from the comments that old film detective shows inspire you. It fits the topic well. It's twisted, yet funny.
