Forgiveness

Last week in Sunday School we discussed forgiveness.

Romans 12:14-16 14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn those who mourn. 16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.

Andy (teacher of the day) and Chip (Chip Ingram, the speaker on our DVD curriculum) talked about forgiveness being ongoing, not just a momentary thing. He said that you choose to forgive, that's the first step. Then you live out the rest of forgiveness by praying for the person that wronged you, and then being joyful when good things happen to them (live in harmony).

As there is quite a bit about it in the news lately I mentioned that I think I would have serious trouble forgiving someone who tortured and/or murdered my children because we are Christian. Forgiveness is one thing when you're sitting at your desk as a concept, it's a whole other thing out there in the world where you have to live it.
